What’s Happening in Arizona?
Congress passed HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that requires that health information be kept private and secure.
Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano signed an executive order to develop a statewide eHealth infrastructure and electronic health records (EHRs) for every Arizonan by 2010.
House Bill 2620 established rules and regulations for the secure and private exchange of health information in Arizona. This bill gave Arizonans the right to keep their medical information from being shared electronically, to exclude some information from being shared, and to opt out and change their mind at a later time.
